How to Use a Gas Weed Eater
How to Use a Gas Weed Eater. Weed eaters or string trimmers, are used to edge around sidewalks and driveways, trim weeds against the house or curb or around a mailbox. You can use the device any place that the lawn mower cannot reach. Just follow these instructions.
Weed eaters or string trimmers, are used to edge around sidewalks and driveways, trim weeds against the house or curb or around a mailbox. You can use the device any place that the lawn mower cannot reach. Just follow these instructions.
Things You'll Need
Long pants
Gas and oil mixture
Trimmer line
Closed-toe shoes
Safety goggles
Weed eater
Start the Gas Weed Eater
Put on your safety goggles.
Make sure the weed eater has the enough gas and oil in the tank before you start.
Make sure there is enough string. If there isn't, add more line to the spool.
A gas weed eater should be primed in two or three strokes. The primer button is a bubble shaped button, usually located underneath the motor.
Switch the button to the start position.
Hold down the gas trigger and pull the starting chord with quick powerful yanks. Continue pulling the chord until the device starts.
Once it starts, switch the button to the run position.
Use the Gas Weed Eater
Hold the weed eater with the right hand on the trigger and left hand on the shaft handle.
Pull and hold the gas trigger and start trimming. Hold the trimmer as far away from you as you comfortably can.
Cut the grass and weeds around the house, curbs, sidewalks and trees.
Tips & Warnings
If the trimming becomes less effective, the weed eater may need more line.
Be sure that you do not put plain gasoline into the tank of the weed eater. It runs on a gas and oil mixture. Refer to the booklet that came with the unit for the proper ratios.
Be sure to wear close-toed shoes.
Wear long pants; the weed eater tends to throw debris that could scratch your bare legs.
