Carolina jessamine is a native evergreen vine with beautiful, fragrant yellow flowers that bloom in the Spring. It has small dark green, waxy leaves and can grow up to 20 feet long. Carolina jessamine grows well in the South. Growing Carolina jessamine can be easy if you have the right tools and follow these simple steps.

Grow from a Seed
Prepare your seeds. Purchase a packet of Carolina jessamine seeds from your local nursery. Soak them in water overnight.
Plant your seeds in individual cups filled with garden soil. Be sure to plant the seeds in late winter if you want to transplant to your garden in the spring. Make sure there are holes in the bottom of the cups for water drainage.
Water regularly and make sure they get plenty of sunlight. Put them in a windowsill for excellent light exposure.
Acclimate your plants to the outdoors before you transplant them into your garden. Set them outdoors for a few hours everyday, increasing the time each day for a week.
Transplant to your yard when the vines reach 6 to 8 inches in length.
Plant Your Carolina Jessamine
Purchase your Carolina jessamine from a local nursery if you did not grow one from seed. Look for one that has healthy green leaves and is already blooming. If you cannot find one at a local nursery, look for an online nursery that will ship one to you.
Choose where to put your vine. Full sun is best, although it will bloom in the shade as well. Carolina jessamine is a climbing vine, so plant it next to a fence, trellis, arbor or even a mailbox. You also can use it as ground cover.
Plant your Carolina jessamine by digging a hole 6 to 8 inches deep depending on the size of your vine. Fill the hole with garden soil and be sure that the roots are completely covered.
Tips & Warnings
Plant multiple vines 4 to 6 feet apart.
Put a few pebbles at the bottom of your hole before adding the Carolina jessamine to ensure good water drainage.
You may need to attach your vine to a stake until it gets big enough to attach to the fence, trellis, arbor or mailbox.
Every part of this plant is poisonous. Plant away from small children and pets.
