Maybe you have a hill around your house that you just don't know what to do with. It can be hard to grow much because water drains off so quickly. Growing grass on a hill works well because it adds a beautiful green covering without much care involved. It does take a little perseverance to grow grass on a hill, but with these easy steps you should be seeing green before you know it.
Things You'll Need
Grass seed
Annual rye grass seed (optional)
Seed spreader
Top soil
Rake
Sprinkler
Remove any rocks and weeds from the hillside where you will plant the grass seed.
Rake out the area so it's smooth.
Use a seed spreader to scatter the grass seed along the hill. You can also scatter the seed by hand.
Layer top soil over the seeds.
Firmly pack down the soil with your hands or the back of a hoe.
Water the soil until it's moist. Do not overwater, causing the seeds to wash down the hill.
Keep the soil moist by lightly watering daily.
Fertilize the area once the grass begins growing.
Tips & Warnings
Once the grass is growing, water in the mornings only.
Consider mixing in annual rye seed, which helps hold the grass seed in long enough to take root.
Do not water grass at night, as this can encourage mold to grow.
Avoid watering during the middle of a hot day, as this causes the water to evaporate quickly without giving the grass sufficient moisture.
