Some people keep rats as pets, but if you have a rat infestation in your home, you don't want to keep them around. Rats can spread diseases, leave their droppings all over your house and eat your food. Rats also multiply fairly quickly, so if you don't deal with the problem in a timely manner, you could end up a house full of rats. The best way to make sure you get rid of all of the rats is to poison them.
Things You'll Need
Boric acid
Chicken broth
Flour
Plastic or latex gloves
Sprinkle flour around your house to determine where the rats are coming from. Do it before bed. When you get up, look for rat tracks. You will see their footprints with a line in between where they were dragging their tails. This will give you a good idea as to where to place the poison. Vacuum up the flour.
Purchase some boric acid and some chicken broth at the grocery store. The boric acid will be on the aisle that contains the laundry detergent.
Heat up some chicken broth on your stove and then pour it into a bowl that you don't care about.
Put on some plastic or latex gloves to protect your hands from the Boric acid.
Add the boric acid. Add enough to make your chicken broth turn into a paste that you can roll into a ball.
Roll the mixture up in to small balls and place in the areas where you found the rat tracks.
Wait a few days and you will start to see dead rats. You may continue to see dead rats over the next couple of weeks.
Dispose of the rats by wearing your gloves and picking them up with some paper towels. Place them in a plastic bag, tie it tight and take it to an outside trash can.
Tips & Warnings
Keep all rat poison away from any areas that are frequented by children or pets.
Sanitize all areas where the rats had been so no one gets sick.
