Things You'll Need
old tires
seed potatoes
potting soil
Get some old tires, you can usually ask friends and family for these or put up a quick tires wanted ad on craigslist or your local freecycle group. Once you have the tires cut off the sidewalls or the smooth part and leave just the tread part. This makes them lighter and easier to stack.
Put one tire down in an area where it will get full sun and fill it with loose dirt or potting soil and plant a few of your seed potatoes. Water the plants. Make sure to check the soil often to see if it needs water. The black tires hold a lot of heat and can dry the soil quickly.
When you start to see sprouts, cover them up to the top few leaves with more loose potting soil. The covered stems will turn into the potatoes. Continue covering the sprouts that come through with more potting soil and tires until you run out of tires or your stack becomes too tall.
When it's time to harvest just unstack the tires. Store your potatoes in a cool dark place.
Tips & Warnings
Don't stack the tires too high or they will topple over.
