Select several varieties of flowers that will thrive and grow happily in the high-alkaline environment that is present in limestone soil. Some of these flowers include roses, irises, maiden pinks, silver cup and cyclamen. It is best to visit a local nursery with an extensive selection and then find plants that appear to be robust.
Prepare the limestone soil by tilling the soil with the pitchfork. Work the soil down to a depth of several inches so that the soil is easily moved and you will be able to dig holes for the flowers.
Make a general plan for which flowers go where in the flower bed. Shorter flowers should go in the front, and taller flowers should go in the rear. If the flower bed is in the center of the yard, place the tallest flowers in the center and surround the outer edges with shorter flowers.
Place each of the flowering plants on the top of the soil in the general spot where it will be planted.
Use the trowel to dig a hole for a flower plant. The hole must be large enough so that the plant can be placed into the hole and the top of the plant be level with the surrounding dirt. Carefully remove the plant from the temporary pot, place it in the hole and replace the dirt firmly around the plant. Repeat with all of the remaining plants.
Mix the appropriate amount of plant food into the watering can and add water to fill the watering can. Water each plant generously.
