Packing and preparing lawn equipment for a move, especially your lawn mower, takes a few extra steps. You can't just wrap your lawn mower in packing material and seal it in a box. Moving companies won't ship the mower if it isn't safely prepared, because it can actually endanger the movers as well as your other valuables. To keep your lawn mower and your moving truck safe, you must know what to remove from the mover and other safety precautions.
Things You'll Need
Gas and oil containers
Packing tape
Cleaning supplies
Clean your lawn mower of all visible debris, including any grass trapped underneath the mower.
Drain the lawn mower of all gas and oil and put in the appropriate containers. Gas can be very combustible in heat, which can be plentiful in a cramped storage unit or shipping truck. Oil is also combustible and any leaking oil can seep through shipping boxes. Wipe off any excess fluids outside the mower. Dispose of gas and oil per your local community's environmental regulations.
Disconnect the spark plug to prevent anyone from starting the lawn mower without any gas in it. There can still be combustible built-up gas fumes inside the tank. Collapse the mower's push handle and affix it to the mower with packing tape.
