How to Grow Sweet 100 Cherry Tomatoes

Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes may be small, but they’re bursting with flavor. They are so sweet that often, they don’t even make it to the kitchen because they’re eaten freshly picked straight from the vine. They grow in large clusters, and do best if they are supported by a trellis. There’s usually plenty to go around, because Sweet 100 tomatoes are easy to grow, and they’re prolific producers all season long.

Start Sweet 100 tomatoes indoors in planting trays in early spring, about a month before the last frost. Plant the seeds about an inch apart and cover them with ? inch of potting soil.

Transplant the seedlings into 2-inch pots when you see the first set of true leaves. About a week after the last frost, begin to harden off the tomatoes. Put them outside in a shady spot for a few hours each day for several days, then let them sit in the sun for a few hours each day. Bring in the seedlings if it rains, or if it gets very hot or windy.

Prepare to plant the Sweet 100 tomatoes by working some compost or manure into the soil. Plant the tomatoes in rows 32 inches apart with 2 feet between each seedling in the row if you plan to put them on trellises. Give them several more inches of space if you plan to let the bushes sprawl.

Plant the seedlings deep so that only the top four sets of leaves show above the soil. This will promote strong roots and healthy plants.

Water the Sweet 100 tomato plants every other day. Try to keep water off the leaves because tomatoes are susceptible to disease if they‘re exposed to too much water. Feed the plants liquid fertilizer every other week.
