Mound ants can do more than take away from the look of your yard. Mound ants can actually ruin sections of your grass. Pesticides and bleach can remove mound ants from your lawn, but you might not want to purchase and handle these items -- you may not wish to pour these chemicals onto your yard since they can make children and animals sick. Fortunately, you can also use water to kill mound ants in your yard.
Things You'll Need
Boiling pot
Water
Put three gallons of water into a pot.
Place the pot on your stove and turn the stove on. Leave it on until the water comes to a full boil. Once it does, leave the pot on the stove for another minute or so before turning the stove off.
Take the pot full of boiling water outside immediately after you turn the stove off.
Cover the entire mound of ants with boiling water. Pour the water slowly to ensure that you kill all of the ants.
Inspect the area to see if you've killed all of the mound ants. If any remain, repeat the process. You may need to do this two to three total times in order to kill all of the mound ants.
Tips & Warnings
Boiling water can damage both plants and grass, so be careful when pouring the water. Wear long pants and long sleeves when doing this to protect your body from the boiling water and from ants.
