How to use Jobe's Evergreen Fertilizer Spikes
Using your caliper (or tape measure), measure the diameter of the trunk about four feet from the ground. This diameter determines how many fertilizer spikes you will need to feed the tree. Use one fertilizer spike for every inch of tree trunk diameter.
Find the drip line of the tree. The drip line of the tree is where the water runs off the edges of the boughs and falls to the ground. It is approximately where the longest boughs reach out of the tree.
Hammer the first fertilizer spike into the ground at the drip line of the tree.
Take the remainder of your fertilizer spikes (if necessary) and pound them into the ground at the drip-line. For best results, space the fertilizer spikes out so that they have approximately the same distance between them.
Tips & Warnings
If you have hard soil, you may want to pre-dig the hole to make it easier on the spikes when you are pounding them into the ground.
Do not use more than one spike per inch of diameter as this could cause root damage. For the same reason, do not use the spikes in combination with other fertilizing programs for the same tree.
