House plants vary greatly in size and variety, but they all have one characteristic in common--the potential for developing water spots. Remove water spots from plant leaves to keep your plants looking healthy and shiny. Although time consuming, removing water spots will ultimately preserve the beauty and longevity of your household plants. Use the following tips to remove water spots from house plants.
Things You'll Need
Spray bottle
Dish soap
Mild vegetable oil soap
1 tsp. vinegar
Cotton swab
Select the type of solution you'd like to use to clean your house plant's leaves. If the spots are from hard water, then mix in a spray bottle a solution of no more than two to three drops of dish soap or mild vegetable oil soap with 20 ounces of water. Lightly mist the plant's leaves with the solution, and then wipe the leaves clean with a dry cloth.
Use a cotton swab dipped in a half-vinegar, half-water solution to spot clean leaves that have hard-water stains. After applying the mixture, wipe the plant's leaves clean with a dry cloth.
Store at room temperature for 24 hours in an open container the water that will be used to water your plants. Do this before watering plants again and after cleaning them to allow the chemicals in the water to dissipate and evaporate before being used to water plants.
