Rattlesnake weed, a winter perennial that's also known as Florida betony, grew exclusively in Florida until the 1950s, when it spread to North Carolina and as far west as Texas. This weed, which grows during cool months, gets its name from the tubers that form its roots. The tubers look like the rattle parts of rattlesnake tails. Herbicides that contain dicamba and are conducive to neighboring vegetation on your property can easily control rattlesnake weed.
Things You'll Need
Herbicide spray containing dicamba
Rubber gloves
Face mask
Safety goggles
Put on the face mask, safety goggles and rubber gloves.
Spray the herbicide all over the rattlesnake weed.
Repeat as needed once a week until the weeds are dead.
Pull up dead weeds and churn soil.
Spray newly churned soil with herbicide and churn again.
Tips & Warnings
Perform this process in the cooler months of the year when the rattlesnake is thriving. This will ensure the plant absorbs the herbicide for full effect.
Do not ingest herbicide. To do so will cause injury, irritations and possibly death.
