Bees can be a real problem in the spring and summer months. This is especially true if you or a member of your family have allergic reactions to bee stings. You will want to do your part to keep bees away from your house and property. You can do this by making a bee trap out of a clear plastic water bottle.
Things You'll Need
Water bottle
Utility knife
Water
Dish soap
Tape
Unscrew the lid to the water bottle and throw it away.
Drink the water (or pour it in a glass to drink later).
Use a utility knife to cut around the shoulder of the water bottle. Remove the portion you just cut off.
Fill the water bottle up half way with water. Add one drop of dish soap.
Turn your shoulder and neck portion of the water bottle upside down. Smear grape jam around the rim of the water bottle. Place it back onto the bottom part of your water bottle.
Tape around the water bottle where the two pieces meet.
Set the water bottle out where you have witnessed bee activity. The bees will fly in the water bottle when they smell the jam. They will then not be able to get back out. The bees will drown in the dish water.
Tips & Warnings
You may want to make several bee traps and set them out at the same time.
Throw the bee traps away every three days, and replace them with new ones.
Instead of dish soap place corn syrup or soda in the bottom of the empty water bottle. It will attract the bees, but they will get stuck in the fluid and drown.
Do not try to remove the bees from the plastic water bottle. They may sting you if they are still alive.
