After a winter of snow removal, your snow blower engine will have quite a toll taken on it. With all the wear and tear to the snow blower engine, one area that you should especially pay attention to is the fuel system. The snow blower engine's fuel system is more likely to gum up in the winter if the gas tank or carburetor get any bad gas or sediment buildup in them. Cleaning the fuel system is fairly easy on a small engine like a snow blower.
Things You'll Need
Wrench set
Bucket
Carb cleaner
Gas
Unscrew the clamp holding the hose to the base of the gas tank. Pull the hose off the nozzle on the base of the gas tank. Allow all the gas to drain into the bucket.
Unscrew the gas cap on the gas tank. Put your thumb over the nozzle on the base of the gas tank. Spray carb cleaner into the tank. Fill the gas tank one-quarter full of gas. Put the gas cap back on. Shake the gas tank back and forth to allow the gas to slosh any residue the carb cleaner broke free off the inner gas tank sidewalls. Take your thumb off the base nozzle. Allow the dirty gas to drain into the bucket.
Unscrew the clamp holding the other end of the hose to the side of the snow blower engine carburetor. Pull the hose off of the carburetor. Spray carb cleaner into the hose and set it aside.
Unscrew the bolt on the base of the carburetor. This bolt is holding the fuel bowl on the carburetor. Dump the dirty gas in the bowl into the bucket. Spray carb cleaner into the fuel bowl. Spray carb cleaner into the area the fuel bowl attached to. This area is the choke valve and looks like a quarter with four holes in it. Reattach the fuel bowl.
Spray carb cleaner into the nozzle where the hose attaches to the carburetor. Spray carb cleaner into the fuel hose again. Reattach the hose to the carburetor nozzle with the clamp. Reattach the other end of the fuel hose to the nozzle on the base of the gas tank. Fill the gas tank with gas.
