Your home sprinkler system contains a sprinkler control valve that determines how much water passes through the sprinkler system. If you're having any problems with controlling the amount of water coming through your system, it may be time to replace the controller valve. It's an easy job to replace the sprinkler controller, once you know where your current control valve is. Most above-ground sprinkler systems use controllers.
Things You'll Need
Wrench
Turn off your home water supply. Locate the water intake valve and turn it to the left. This step is crucial before you start working with your sprinkler system.
Find the control valve on your sprinkler. You can find it at the end of the hose where the water comes out. This is called the hose bib.
Take off the old control valve. In most cases you can unscrew the valve by hand, but you might have to use a wrench if it's stuck. In either case, once you unscrew the valve, take it off by hand. Now, locate the other side of the control valve, which is connected to the shutoff valve, and remove it the same way.
Attach the new valve to the hose bib by screwing it on the same way you took off the old valve. Tighten the new valve first by hand, then tighten it further with a wrench. Do not tighten too much since that could cause a leak.
Turn the water supply back on. Try out your new control valve and make sure it's working the way you want.
Tips & Warnings
