When you are in the middle of the mowing season, the last thing you need is a flat tire to slow you down. After mowing on a variety of surfaces, you are bound to pick up a nail or sharp object in a tire sooner or later. When you get a flat tire on your MTD riding mower, know how to get the tire off so you can fix it.
Things You'll Need
Automotive jack
3/8-inch wrench
Flat-head screwdriver
Loosen the center bolt holding the flat rear tire on MTD riding mower models. Turn the bolt 1/2 turn counterclockwise with the 3/8-inch wrench.
Position the automotive jack under the rear axle. Put it under the side of the axle the flat tire is on.
Jack up the mower 3 to 4 inches.
Unscrew the center bolt from the rear tire the rest of the way. Pull off the flat tire.
Lay the tire flat on the ground. Unscrew the air cap and push the tire stem to the side to let any remaining air out.
Kneel onto the sidewalls of the tire. Push the screwdriver between the tire and the rim. Push out on the screwdriver handle to pry the tire off the rim.
