When you are mowing during the summer and you get a flat tire on your Snapper mower, you will have to change the tires as soon as possible so you can get back to mowing. Varying grass and mowing areas can have sharp stones, thorns or objects in them that can puncture your tires. Changing and fixing the tires on your Snapper mower yourself will save you time and money.
Things You'll Need
Automotive jack
Socket set
Flathead screwdriver
Needle nose pliers
Tire patch repair kit
Ratchet strap
Air compressor
Slide the automotive jack under the side of the Snapper mower axle that has the flat tire. Jack up the axle 3 to 4 inches.
Remove the tire. For rear tires, use the proper size socket to unscrew the four nuts holding the rim to the axle. For front tires, pry the center cap off with a screwdriver, and pull out the center cotter key with needle nose pliers.
Unscrew the air valve cap on the flat tire. Push the tire valve stem to the side to let out any remaining air.
Kneel on the tire sidewalls, and slide the flathead screwdriver between the rim and the tire. Pry the tire off the rim.
Run your hand inside the tire to find the sharp object; do it slowly so you don't prick your hand. Pull the sharp object out from the top side of the tread with the needle nose pliers.
Peel the back off of a tire patch, and stick it over the center of the hole on the inside of the tire. Use the tire patch roller from the tire patch kit to press the patch into place inside the tire.
Lay the rim flat on the ground. Lay the fixed tire over the rim. Kneel on the tire to force it on the rim. Pry it on completely with the screwdriver.
Wrap the ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire, and ratchet it down until the tire sidewalls bow out and touch the rim.
Air up the tire until the sidewalls of the tire seal to the rim. Remove the ratchet strap, and air up the tire to the proper PSI (air pressure) listed on the sidewall of the tire.
Replace the tire on the axle of the Snapper mower. Lower and remove the automotive jack.
Tips & Warnings
For Snapper push lawn mowers, unscrew the center bolt holding the plastic wheel to the deck height adjustment bracket on the mower deck.
