With an ever increasing emphasis placed on green living, it should come as no surprise that getting rid of unwanted grass is no exception. Many homeowners do not want to spray their land with harsh chemicals that can harm their families and the soil. There are many environmentally friendly options that will effectively kill unwanted grass without harming the soil or you in the process. With a few simple items that can be found at home or purchased at a home improvement store, you can be well on your way to ridding yourself of unwanted grass.
Things You'll Need
Heavy landscaping plastic
Landscaping spikes
White vinegar
Hand sprayer bottle or garden pump sprayer
Place a heavy sheet of plastic over areas of land you want to rid of grass. Secure the plastic to the ground using landscaping spikes. The plastic shields the grass from air and sunlight that will slowly kill the unwanted grass.
Place a gallon of white vinegar in either a hand spray bottle or a larger garden pump spray for ridding wide areas of grass. Spray the area heavily with vinegar. It is best to spray grass during the hottest part of the day as the heat will help the vinegar to kill the grass quicker. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which is an effective weed killer. Make sure you purchase a white vinegar with the highest acetic content possible--anywhere between 5 and 30 percent works well.
Pour a small pot of boiling water on small areas of grass to kill it almost instantly. The hot water scorches the blades and stops growth.
