Fleas are small black insects that do not have any wings. It is easy for outdoor cats and dogs to pick up fleas during the spring and summer months. Once this happens, the fleas quickly multiply and take over your home. Because fleas are so tiny, many people have trouble spotting them. A pure white piece of paper can show that fleas exist in your home, and then you can work on getting rid of them.
Things You'll Need
White paper
Small bowl
Water
Dish soap
Night light
Lay a sheet of white paper down underneath any outlets in your home.
Mix two drops of dish soap with one cup of warm water. Pour this mixture into a bowl.
Set the bowl on top of the white sheet of paper.
Plug the night light in and turn it on. The light will attract the fleas. When they hop on the paper you will be able to see them. Then they will hop toward the light into the bowl of soapy water. They will drown.
Empty your bowl of soapy water daily, and replace it with fresh soapy water. Do this until you no longer see fleas on the white paper or in the bowl.
Tips & Warnings
You can also bathe your pets in soapy water for five minutes to kill any fleas that are still on them.
Ask your veterinarian to give you anti-flea medication to keep your pet from catching the fleas again.
It is easier to prevent a flea infestation than to treat one. You may have to flea bomb your entire home if you become infested.
