Although ladybugs are beneficial to gardens and our ecosystem, they are an annoyance inside the home. Ladybugs do not bite and are harmless to people, but their presence inside is bothersome. A ladybug infestation in the home can be treated using home remedies rather than commercial insecticides. Many commercial insecticides contain toxic chemicals that are harmful to people and the environment. Opt for a natural approach to removing ladybugs from the home.
Things You'll Need
Vacuum cleaner
Cloves
Lemon-scented candles
Double-sided tape or sticky strips
Lemon-scented cleaner
Vacuum up surfaces and areas where you see ladybugs. Use the hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner to suck up ladybugs from tight spaces such as window sills and along baseboards. Dispose of the vacuum bag promptly in the outside garbage can.
Pick up remaining ladybugs with your hands, or skip the vacuum cleaner if there are only a few of them. Ladybugs do not bite, so there is no danger in picking them up. Release the ladybugs outside if you do not want to kill them. Release them as far away from your home as possible so that they do not return.
Place cloves in your window sills, around doors and baseboards, in light fixtures and anywhere else you notice the ladybugs. Place the cloves sporadically in these locations to drive away the ladybugs.
Purchase a few lemon-scented candles and burn them in the areas where you notice ladybugs. Burn them as often as possible to drive out the ladybugs.
Place double-sided tape or sticky strips along baseboards, window sills, corners and other places where you see ladybugs. This will trap the ladybugs, and you can then easily dispose of them.
Spray lemon-scented cleaner on the ladybugs as a last resort if you must kill them. Make sure the cleaner is eco-friendly and does not contain bleach. The ladybugs will die quickly. Vacuum them up after they are dead and empty the vacuum bag outside.
