One of the sweetest benefits of growing lilac bushes in a home landscape may be the large bundles of lilac blossoms a gardener can cut each spring when the lilacs are in full bloom. With their heady scent and beautiful purple or white color, lilac blossoms can fill an entire room with delightful aromas of spring. Head out to the garden with your pruning shears in hand to cut lilac flowers to bring inside the house.

Pruning shears
Large bucket
Vase
Watch the lilac bushes so you see when the blossoms begin to open. The ideal time for cutting lilac blossoms is when the blossoms are just beginning to open on the branches.
Cut the branches off with pruning shears at approximately 4 to 5 inches below the bottom-most blossoms. Place each blossoming branch into the bucket. Spread out your cutting to minimize bare spots in the shrubs. This will keep your lilacs looking beautiful as they continue to grow. Continue cutting until you have as many branches full of blossoms as you desire.
Take the lilacs inside and place the blossoms onto a counter. Clip off the small stems and leaves from the bottom half of the stems so the foliage will not be under the water in the vase.
Fill the vase with cool water and place the lilac stems into the water. Make sure that each stem is below the water surface. Arrange the blossoms in the vase so they make a pleasing display.
Place the vase in an indoor location away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Replenish the vase with fresh water every other day.
