After using your Homelite weed trimmer for an extended period, the fuel can begin to gum up and eat away at the fuel lines. You can clean the fuel lines with carburetor cleaner, but over time they'll need replacing before they start leaking fuel. It's possible to replace the fuel line with a few supplies and some basic tools.
Things You'll Need
Flat-head screwdriver
Bucket
1/4-inch rubber gas hose, 8 inches
Utility knife
Mower gas hose filter
Unscrew the clamps holding the fuel line onto the base of the gas tank and onto the side of the carburetor with the flat-head screwdriver. Pull the fuel line hose off with your hand. Position the bucket under the gas tank to catch the old gas.
Unscrew the clamps holding the frisbee-shaped fuel filter in the middle of the fuel line and slide them off the ends of the fuel line hose.
Cut the new fuel line hose in half with the utility knife. Insert the new fuel filter between the two pieces of fuel line hose. Slide the clamps onto the ends of the hose and slide them next to the fuel filter. Tighten them down with the screwdriver.
Slide the the remaining two clamps onto each end of the new fuel line. Push the ends of the new fuel line onto the nozzles on the base of the gas tank and side of the carburetor. Tighten the fuel line hose into place with the clamps.
