For more than 50 years, Craftsman has built lawnmowers and lawn tractors. Though the mowers have changed over the years, identifying a Craftsman-brand lawnmower is easy. Search every section of the mower or tractor for the Craftsman logo and for other marks.
Logo
Look for the Craftsman logo, a rectangle lined in white with an inner red box that has "Craftsman" written in white. The logo has been used for quite a long time. Check the mower deck and inside the tractor hood for this logo if it is not noticeable anywhere on the outside of the mower or tractor.
Motor
Craftsman lawnmowers and tractors use only three motor brands: Honda, Kohler and Briggs & Stratton. If the motor is any other brand, then the mower is not a Craftsman or the motor has been swapped out.
Color
Craftsman mowers come in red, black and gray. Years ago, they also came in green. Craftsman mowers and tractors have never been any other color.
Craftsman Professional
Craftsman Professional, a brand within the Craftsman line, started building lawn tractors a few years ago. The Craftsman logo is the same, but now it is accompanied by a small yellow rectangle underneath it that says "Professional." These tractors are built stronger and are recommended for commercial landscaping companies.
Sears Brand
The Sears brand of lawnmowers and tractors that were built a long time ago are not Craftsman products. They do not have the features of Craftsman-built products. If you see "Sears" written on the mower or tractor, it is not a Craftsman.
