Japanese beetles feed off of fruit and vegetable plants, leaving a lace-like pattern in the leaves that they eat. They are very easy to see as the adult is one-half-inch long, round and of a prototypical beetle appearance. Covered with tiny hairs, the wings of the beetles are an iridescent green color that catches the sunlight. They are only active during the day and can cover and destroy an area of crop that is over five miles in diameter. Killing the beetles is not difficult, and there are several methods. One of the easiest methods involves natural, household ingredients.
Things You'll Need
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 mashed banana
2 1/4 teaspoons yeast (1 packet)
1 gallon milk jug, empty
Dissolve sugar and yeast into the water and pour into the jug.
Mix mashed banana into the sugar water in the jug.
Place the jug (with the cap off) in an area where you've seen the beetles congregate. This will be easy as the beetles move and live in groups. The smell of the jug's contents will attract the beetles inside and trap them, where they will die. Allow the beetles to fill up the jug.
Dump contents of the jug into the garbage. Repeat the process if necessary.
