Deadheading is a technique which removes spent flowers from annuals and perennials to promote further blooming and improve the plant's appearance. Many flowers that are continuous blooming, such as Shasta daisies, respond to deadheading by producing more flowers. When spent blooms are not removed, it signals the plant to go to seed and end its growth cycle.
Things You'll Need
Gloves
Garden pruners or scissors
Bag for spent blooms
Inspect your Shasta daisy plant for spent blooms or dead flowers.
Select flowers that have begun to curl and dry, have gottten discolored or lost their petals.
Use the pruning shear method: Clip the spent daisy by cutting the stem just above the next set of leaves or stem joint below that flower.
Use the pinching method: Use your thumb and forefinger to pinch off the dead bloom on the stem just below it.
Collect the spent blooms in the bag and compost them or place in your yard waste bin.
