The Poulan 3314 chainsaw has a 14-inch bar and chain which can cut logs up to 28 inches in diameter. The chainsaw has a two-stroke engine which uses a mixture of oil and gas. If problems arise when using the P3314, troubleshooting steps can be taken to identify the cause of the issue. Once the problem has been determined, the issues can many times be easily resolved.
Check the ignition switch if the engine will not start. Move the ignition switch to the "On" position.
Check the fuel tank if the engine will not run after starting. If the tank is empty, fill with the correct fuel mixture. To obtain the correct mix, pour 3.2 ounces of two-cycle synthetic oil into 1 gallon of gas.
Install a new spark plug if the spark plug is not firing. The spark plug should be replaced once a year. To replace the spark plug, remove the three screws on the cylinder cover. Remove the cylinder cover. Pull off the spark plug boot and remove the spark plug. Insert the new spark plug and replace the spark plug boot. Put the cylinder cover back into place. Replace the three screws and tighten securely.
Check the fuel filter if the engine will not run. Replace the filter if it is dirty. To replace the fuel filter, run the chainsaw until it uses up all the fuel. Remove the fuel cap and the retainer that is connected to the cap from the tank. Pull the filter out of the tank. Insert the new fuel filter. Replace the cap and retainer.
Check the air filter if the engine will not accelerate. Clean the air filter if it is dirty. Remove the three screws on the cylinder cover and remove it. Pull off the air filter cover and remove the air filter. Clean the filter with hot, soapy water and rinse with clean, cool water. Allow the filter to completely air dry. Replace the filter and filter cover. Reinstall the cylinder cover. Replace the three cylinder cover screws and tighten securely.
Empty the fuel tank if the engine is smoking excessively. This is caused by too much oil mixed with the gasoline. Refill the tank with the correct fuel mixture.
