Bentgrass is broad term applied to many species of grass. Creeping bentgrass is common, highly invasive and spreads particularly well in spring. It can infiltrate and destroy the root system of a current lawn quickly. Killing the bentgrass in the early spring will curtail any large growth of the grass. An herbicide containing glyphosate is the most common solution to creeping bentgrass. While non-selective, glyphosate will remove the bentgrass and allow you to restore your lawn through reseeding.
Things You'll Need
Herbicide (glyphosate)
Plastic spray bottle
Fill the plastic bottle with the herbicide containing glyphosate.
Aim the sprayer approximately 5 to 7 inches away from the bentgrass and soak the blades with the herbicide. Be sure to spray approximately 4 to 5 inches outside the growth of bentgrass to kill spreading roots.
Allow the herbicide to break down the grass for one to two weeks and monitor the progress. If necessary, reapply the herbicide.
