A wedding bouquet is perhaps the most meaningful floral arrangement at any marriage celebration. Carried by the bride, it reflects her personality and taste, and symbolizes one of the most momentous days of her life. Wedding bouquets come in a virtually endless array of styles. Some are hand-tied, which means the stems of the bouquet’s flowers are simply bundled together and secured with a ribbon. Others are arranged in bouquet holders, which is generally made of white plastic. Wrapping the handle of a wedding bouquet holder in ribbon lends it a more elegant, polished look.
Things You'll Need
Scissors
Ribbon
Hot glue
3 pearl-tipped pins
Cut a 2-foot long piece of ribbon with scissors. Use ribbon that is 2 inches wide; this will ensure that it covers the wedding bouquet holder’s handle with ease.
Apply a 2-inch long strip of hot glue to the top of the handle, right below the place where it meets the plastic cup that contains the bouquet flowers.
Press one end of the cut ribbon to the hot glue at the top of the handle. Allow the hot glue to dry completely so the ribbon is firmly adhered.
Wind the ribbon around the length of the handle, working from the top to the bottom. Overlap the ribbon as you wind, ensuring that no part of the handle shows through.
Wind the ribbon back up the length of the handle, working from the bottom to the top.
Cut away any excess ribbon with scissors when you reach the top of the handle; just leave about 2 extra inches of ribbon when you reach the top.
Grasp the 2 extra inches of ribbon you have left at the top of the handle. Tuck one inch of it under, hiding the raw edge and creating a neat fold.
Press the folded ribbon securely against the handle. Push three pearl-tipped pins into the folded ribbon and through the ribbon underneath it. Arrange the pins vertically, with one under the other. Angle the pins downward so that they penetrate the layers of ribbon but do not press against the plastic handle. The pins will hold the ribbon wrap in place.
Tips & Warnings
Wrap a wedding bouquet holder’s handle in ribbon that matches the color of the bride’s dress; for a more dynamic look, choose ribbon in a color that matches the flowers or greenery in the bouquet.
Avoid using wire-edged ribbon to wrap the handle of a wedding bouquet holder; it lacks the pliability required to make this process easy.
