Even the mere mention of snakes is enough to make many people cringe. They view snakes as slimy, slithery pests rather than the generally gentle, docile creatures they truly are. Snake repellents are designed to keep snakes out of certain areas, although many are made with poisonous chemicals. Natural snake repellents can be made at home and are a safe alternative to commercial deterrents.

Fine mesh netting
Hammer
Nails
Cheesecloth

Cinnamon oil

Step 1
Clean your yard to remove dead limbs and debris. Snakes will hide in rotting foliage and old wood piles, so removing them will reduce the number of snakes on your property.
Step 2
Cover every hole and gap around the foundation of your home with fine mesh netting. Cut the netting to fit over the hole, and attach it to the house with a hammer and nails. The holes in this type of netting are small enough to keep snakes from crawling inside your home.
Step 3
Pour equal parts clove oil and cinnamon oil in a spray bottle, and coat paths and walkways around your yard. Spray the mixture on the ground around your home’s foundation and any garages or outbuildings to keep snakes from going inside. The potent smell of clove and cinnamon oil deters snakes.
