Buccaneer is a postemergent herbicide, which means it kills weeds that have sprouted but it doesn't prevent their seeds from germinating. For this reason, it's ideal to use it as soon as the weeds appear and before they have a chance to flower and drop seeds. Buccaneer herbicide eliminates annual and perennial weeds as well as woody brush and trees, says the manufacturer's label. Before using this product, dilute it in water.

Dry ammonium sulfate
Fill your sprayer with clean tap water. The manufacturer explains that water containing dirt adversely affects the effectiveness of Buccaneer herbicide. The quantity of water depends on how strong you'd like the mixture to be. For hand-held sprayers, recommended dilution rates range from 0.5 percent to 10 percent. If your weed problem isn't severe, start with the weakest mixture suggested. Increase the strength in a future application if you don't get good results. For the mildest solution, add 1 gallon of water to your sprayer.
Mix 0.7 oz. of Buccaneer herbicide with the water in the sprayer.
Add dry ammonium sulfate to the herbicide mixture. The manufacturer recommends this substance to improve the effectiveness of Buccaneer herbicide. Ammonium sulfate seems to be particularly helpful in drought conditions and when the herbicide is mixed with hard water. Use it at the rate of between 8 1/2 and 17 lb. per 100 gallons of water.
