Lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana), also called Belgian evergreen, grows best as a hydrophonic plant, which means it subsists with its root system submerged in water and gravel only. The plant can subsist in rocky planting soil but is rarely grow in such a medium. Enthusiasts of feng shu believe that the plant brings luck to the household and helps to positively affect the surrounding energy. A popular houseplant, lucky bamboo can also grace outdoor settings as an ideal container specimen on patios or near pools.
Things You'll Need
Distilled water

Water soluble fertilizer 10-10-10
Place lucky bamboo in a container in an outdoor location so it is sheltered from direct sunlight. The foliage of the plant will often suffer burning if the plant sustains direct sunlight.
Water the lucky bamboo using distilled water. Move the plant indoors during a rain shower if the area suffers urban pollution. Lucky bamboo is extremely sensitive to water toxins, lime and fluoride. Flush out the old water every two weeks using fresh distilled water.
Mist the lucky bamboo daily with warm, distilled water. The plant enjoys medium humidity.
Carry the plant indoors if the temperature falls below 65 degrees Fahrenheit or rises to over 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place a couple of drops of water-soluble liquid fertilizer into the water around the plant's root system every two months. Use a well-balanced plant fertilizer such as a 10-10-10 blend.

Lucky bamboo that is grown in soil is known as the "ribbon plant."
Keep lucky bamboo away from pets and children. It contains toxins.
