How to Troubleshoot a Weed Wacker
How to Troubleshoot a Weed Wacker. Weed wackers, also known as trimmers, edgers and weed eaters, provide the finishing touches to your mowed lawn. These lawn manicurists are operated by gas or electrical power. Weed wackers will occasionally malfunction, but you might be able to fix the problem yourself before taking it to a specialist.

Switch the operation setting to "OFF" if the weed wacker's engine won't start. Let it sit for a minute and then turn it back on and try again. Also try removing the spark plug and pulling the starter cord to see if it will spark. If there is no spark, replace it with a new spark plug. Check that the primary fuel delivery line is not blocked by pushing the primer bulb to fill it full of fuel. If it does not fill, there is a blockage. Contact the service dealer for repair if the line is blocked.
Fill the engine with fresh fuel and the specified oil mix if the engine will not reach full speed, if it produces excessive smoke or if oil drips from the muffler. Clean the air filter. Remove it by gently pulling the cover off in front of it. Lightly brush the air filter screen with a soft cleaning brush and replace the cover once clean.
Apply silicone spray to the line if it will not advance automatically. Install more line if there is not enough line on the spool. Remove the line from the spool and rewind if it has became tangled. Try advancing the line at full throttle to see if it will release it.
Cut higher grass from the top down and operate the weed wacker at full throttle if grass wraps around the trimmer head.
