Stihl Incorporated USA is a well-know manufacturer of outdoor power equipment such as chainsaws, leaf blowers, industrial demolition saws, edgers and hedge trimmers. If you have acquired a Stihl HS45 model hedge trimmer and wish to start it for the first time, it is a fairly straightforward task. Before you begin, be sure to fuel the unit according to the manufacturer's directions.
Slide the blade lock lever forward toward the front handle.
Press the stop switch into the interlock position.
Press down on the throttle trigger interlock lever, squeeze the throttle trigger and hold it in that position.
Press in the starting throttle lock.
Set the choke lever to the cold starting position and press the fuel primer bulb a minimum of five times.
Place the unit on the ground and remove the blade scabbard. Be sure that the blade does not make contact with the soil.
Grasp the machine firmly with your left hand pressing down on the front handle.
Pull the starter handle and rope until you feel it begin to engage. Give the rope a strong swift pull. As the engine starts, gradually slide the starting rope back into the unit so that it will rewind properly.
Tap the trigger quickly. This action releases the engine from the full choke position.
Allow the engine to warm up for a minute or two before beginning to trim your hedges.
