Replacing the string in a weed eater is one of those tasks you find yourself doing a lot when you have a lawn to manicure. Most weed eaters are designed to make this process as user friendly as possible, though it still helps to have a clear idea of how the string is supposed to be loaded onto its spool before you begin. Once you've done this a couple of times, it becomes intuitive.
Things You'll Need
Tape measure
X-acto knife or razor blade
Use a tape measure to mark off about 18 feet of string, then use an X-acto knife or razor blade to cut the string.
Fold the measured string in half. Allow one half of the string to be a few inches longer than the other half.
Locate the notch in the spool divider. The spool divider is the part of the spool that divides the "top" half of the spool from the "bottom" half of the spool. Insert the folded part of the string into that notch.
Wrap both halves of the string in the same direction around the spool. Each half should be on its own side of the spool divider.
Place the short half of the string into one of the two notches on the edge of the spool, then wrap the long half around to the opposite side of the spool and place it in the notch on that side.
Place the spool into the housing hub on the weed eater. Push each half of the string through the hole on its side of the housing hub. Replace the housing cover and you are ready to go.
