Many bird watchers and animal lovers get pleasure from feeding birds. Bread crumbs are a popular choice for food as they attract many types of birds and they tend to be much cheaper than other options. While the process for this may seem straightforward, improper feeding can potentially put the birds in danger. Too much feeding can cause dependency in the birds and ultimately reduce their ability to find food on their own.
Things You'll Need
Bird guide
Bowl
Read a bird guide to determine what types of birds are in your yard and whether or not they like bread. A bird guide for your local area is best, as it will contain only birds in your region, which in turn makes it easier for you to narrow down which bird species habituate your yard.
Tear the bread into ?-inch chunks and put it into a bowl. The amount of bread needed depends on the amount of birds in your area. Bread should not make up the entire diet for the birds, so use no more than one slice of bread for every 10 birds.
Scatter the bread throughout your property.
Repeat the process every other day.
Tips & Warnings
Find bird guides at libraries, bookstores and some garden and lawn supply stores.
