PatioHit roses are patented miniature roses bred by Poulsen Roses in Denmark. They are considered "florist roses," as opposed to domestically bred miniatures that are known as "garden roses." PatioHit roses are the type you will find for sale at the supermarket or discount stores. Florist miniatures are meant to be enjoyed indoors while they are in bloom, and then either discarded or planted in the garden.
Things You'll Need
6-in. planting pot
Potting soil
Perlite
Shallow container
Pebbles
Fertilizer
Insecticidal soap spray
Pruning shears
Repot your PatioHit rose into a 6-inch pot as soon as you bring it home. Use equal parts of potting soil and perlite, and plant the rose at the same depth at which it was growing in the nursery pot. Water it until the excess water drains from the bottom of the pot.
Fill a shallow container with pebbles. Add water until just the tops of the pebbles are exposed. This is known as a humidity tray and will provide the PatioHit rose with moist air.
Place the tray in an area that receives bright, indirect sunlight and place the pot on top of the dry pebbles. Do not allow the pot to sit in water. Add water to the tray as it evaporates, keeping the top of the pebbles exposed.
Wash the PatioHit rose weekly by placing it under a gentle stream of running water. Use your fingers to remove dust and dirt from the undersides of the foliage.
Fertilize the miniature rose once a week with a 5-5-10 formula diluted to one-fourth the strength recommended on the label.
Check the PatioHit rose periodically for pests. Spider mites are common on these roses and can generally be controlled with insecticidal soap sprays. For larger infestations, cut the plant back to half its size and remove all of its foliage.
Remove flowers as they fade. In early summer or late fall, cut the plant to half its size to rejuvenate it.
