Tecumseh is among one of the top names that specialize in two-cycle lawn mowers and other gas-powered lawn tools like trimmers and blowers. Tecumseh gas-powered tools utilize a primer bulb to deliver gas to the carburetor. This quick delivery is used to assist starting the engine after it has sat up for a while. The gas is delivered from the gas tank through a small hose attached to the back side of the Tecumseh's carburetor.
Things You'll Need
Flat head screw driver
Replacement primer bulb and retainer ring
Replacement hose
Remove the spark plug wire on the Tecumseh engine.
Use a flat head screw driver to gently pry out the retainer ring of the primer bulb. The retainer ring has six small tabs that have to be gently pried out. Once the retainer ring has been removed, the old primer bulb will pull straight out.
Place the new retainer bulb inside the mounting hole. Press the new retaining ring into place, allowing each of the ring's six tabs to click into place.
Use a screwdriver to loosen the small clamp that holds the old hose to the side of the gas tank. Once it is loose, trace the old tube to the back of the carburetor. Use pliers to pull the other end of the hose off the nipple on the back of the carburetor. Slip the one end of the new hose to the back of the carburetor. Use pliers to pull the tubing up and over the nipple if necessary. Attach the other end of the hose back to the gas tanks and tighten the hose clamp with a screwdriver.
Put the Tecumseh's spark plug wire back on.
