The trimmer head that houses the string on the Shindaiwa T242 weed eater is a sealed, rewound unit. Once the string is gone, you simply replace the head. This means you do not have to thread the string onto the bobbin inside the cutter head. This simplifies the process and makes changing the string something you can accomplish quite quickly.
Things You'll Need
Allen wrench
New trimmer head
Turn the trimmer over so you can see the bottom of the output shaft. This is where the trimmer head connects.
Rotate the current trimmer head until the hole in the shaft lines up with the hole in the gear set. The hole is located just above the trimmer head on the shaft
Wedge an Allen wrench into the hole to lock the shaft in place.
Turn the trimmer head clockwise to loosen it. The threads are reversed from a normal bolt.
Thread the new trimmer head onto the shaft by turning it counterclockwise. Hand-tighten only; do not use a pair of pliers to tighten it.
Remove the Allen wrench from the shaft.
