Things You'll Need
Shovel
Organic mulch
8-8-8 NPK fertilizer
Nitrogen
Pruning shears
Plant the cherimoya tree at the depth it was previously growing.
Water until the soil is moderately moist all the way to the roots.
Place 2 to 3 inches of organic mulch around the tree's base, which prevents weeds, preserves moisture and enriches the soil as it decomposes.
Water two times each week from early spring until late fall. Stop watering completely during winter.
Feed with 8-8-8 NPK fertilizer once during the middle of winter, at the rate instructed on the package. Repeat the application every three months. Once the trees begin producing fruit, fertilize once each year with nitrogen. Apply the nitrogen at a rate of 4 oz. to each inch of trunk diameter.
Prune during mid to late winter. Remove all spindly growth as well as rubbing or crossing branches.
Tips & Warnings
Plant cherimoya trees in a location protected from high winds.
