Sometimes nothing can ruin a well-manicured backyard like the presence of an ugly outdoor fence. Whether it is poorly made or simply in disrepair, the fence can be a major cause for concern. Thankfully, there are a number of options for covering a fence available to homeowners. Employing one or several simple methods will hide the ugliness and rejuvenate your backyard. For those unfamiliar with landscaping projects, covering the fence will still be a straightforward task.
Plant a row of Arborvitae trees along the fence. These trees are particularly suited for the Northeast in the United States and can be bought when they are 2 to 3 feet tall. Plant trees approximately 3 feet apart in the early spring, just after the final frost. These trees grow quickly and will provide a handsome barrier in front of the ugly fence.
Plant ivy vines to crawl over and cover the fence. Popular varieties of ivy include English and Irish. Both varieties grow quickly and crawl up nearby structures. Plant this ivy in the early spring and space plants 1 to 2 feet apart and 6 inches away from the base of the fence.
Repaint or restain the fence. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint or stain can turn around the look of a fence. Be sure to purchase a color that is suited for the outdoors and compatible with the material of the fence.
