Types
There are many different types of moles, but they can be split into two categories. The majority of moles subsist almost completely on insects, while one species eat plants as well.
Plant Eaters
Townsend's Mole, which is the largest mole in North America, is the only mole that is believed to eat plants. It will also eat the normal insect fare that other moles live on.
Insectivores
The majority of moles eat insects, earthworms and the occasional mouse.
How Much Food?
Because moles live their lives tunneling underground, they expend a great amount of energy. They will eat upwards of twice their body weight daily.
Geography
Moles can be found all over North America and Europe, as well as most of Asia.
