The Black & Decker edger is an economical way to edge your walkways and around gardens. The edger uses a a single blade to remove weeds and grass in a uniform line as you walk it down a boundary. Just like any other piece of equipment that uses a blade, there comes a time when replacement of the blade is necessary. Replacing a Black & Decker edger with a replacement blade is a simple process with quick access to the blade. Replacement blades are available at home improvement centers.
Things You'll Need
Wrench
Socket wrench
Unplug the Black & Decker edger from the power cord. Allow the blade to come to a complete stop before replacing it with a replacement blade.
Turn the blade guard lever clockwise toward the direction of the guard until it stops. The lever is near the front of the blade guard. Lift the blade guard up to open it and access the blade.
Hold the outer spacer between the blade and the retaining nut with a wrench. Remove the retaining nut with a socket wrench. Pull the retaining nut and the outer spacer away from the blade.
Pull the old blade out of the blade shaft. Ensure that the inner spacer washer remains on the shaft. Install the Black & Decker replacement edge blade onto the shaft.
Slide the outer spacer over the shaft and thread on the retaining nut. Tighten the nut with a socket wrench. Lower the blade guard and turn the lever counter-clockwise to lock it in place.
Tips & Warnings
Wear leather work gloves when replacing blades to avoid accidental cuts.
