A hexagon has six sides and is an attractive shape for a flower garden. You can build your wooden hexagon flower garden frame any size you want, depending on your space and needs. If you have a large, flat yard, a hexagon flower garden will help add dimension and color to your yard. If you have a small yard with little open soil space, you can build a smaller hexagon flower garden to fit the space you have. Hexagon flower gardens are also ideal for large patio spaces.
Things You'll Need
Paper and pencil
Measuring tape
Miter saw
Electric drill
3-inch wood screws
Cedar wood or another outdoor wood
Helpers
Native soil
Composted organic materials
Flower seeds or starts
Water
Sketch out your hexagon flower garden frame on a piece of paper. Use a ruler or measuring tape to label the dimensions of each side. Sketching out your flower garden before hand will help keep you organized before the actual project begins. Use your sketch as a guide when you are ready to cut each piece of your hexagon.
Measure and cut six boards the same length according to your plan. Use a miter saw to cut a 30-degree taper on each end of all six boards. The angle cuts will allow you to create an attractive six-sided wooden flower garden frame.
Place the ends of two boards together and pre-drill three screw holes through one side with an electric drill. Fasten each joint together with three 3-inch wood screws. Repeat for each of the six angled joints.
Move the wooden flower garden frame into place. Depending on the size, you may need help from one or more people to lift and move it. The ground underneath the wooden hexagon frame should be bare, level soil.
Fill the frame with a mixture of native soil and composted organic materials. Plant flower seeds or flower starts in the soil and water.
Tips & Warnings
Always wear safety goggles when cutting wood with a power saw.
