Orange Alstroemeria Bulbs

Alstroemeria is commonly called Inca lily and Peruvian lily. It blooms in an assortment of colors, including orange. The plant's fleshy root is technically a bulbs but a tuber. In U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 8 through 10, Peruvian lily is a clump-forming perennial. Outside those zones, its root is dug up and stored indoors for winter, or the plant is purchased as for indoor floral decor. Peruvian lily has tall and dwarf forms, and all forms require full light and moist but well-drained soil. The plants have the unusual habit of turning their leaves upside down as they grow.
Orange Cultivars
Some Peruvian lilies' flowers have orange overtones but are seldom entirely orange. "Orange King" (Alstroemeria "Orange King") flowers display three orange petals and three lighter orange petals marked with red lines. "Beatrice" (Alstroemeria "Beatrice") is similar but bears three yellow petals striped red and tipped in orange. "Inca Exotica" (Alstroemeria "Inca Exotica"), which has a dwarf habit, bears tangerine-orange flowers with reddish splotches. Three of each of its flowers' petals bear reddish-brown marks.
Coral and Salmon Cultivars
Shades and hues of orange are also common Peruvian lily flower colors. The dwarf "Inca Tropic" (Alstroemeria "Inca Tropic"), for example, bears coral-colored flowers with red blotches and yellow striped zones. "Cocktail" (Alstroemeria "Cocktail"), "Salmon Queen" (Alstroemeria "Salmon Queen") and "Salmon Bay" (Alstroemeria "Salmon Bay") all bear salmon-colored flowers. "Cocktail" is slightly more peach-colored than "Salmon Bay," but both bear yellow striped zones on some petals. "Salmon Queen" bears pale-salmon flowers with darker orange splotches and yellow striped sections on some petals.
Dark-Orange Cultivars
Some orange Peruvian lilies bear orange-colored flowers that may border on red. Both "Flame" (Alstroemeria "Flame") and "Tampa" (Alstroemeria "Tampa") look very similar, and each bears dark-orange flowers with yellow splotches and yellow striped zones on some petals. Both "Monte Lava" (Alstroemeria "Monte Lava") and "Lukka" (Alstroemeria "Lukka") bear reddish orange flowers with yellow striped zones.
Orange Species
A number of Peruvian lily species bear orange flowers. They include Alstroemeria aurantiaca and Alstroemeria aurea, both of which bear light-orange flowers with striped petals. Alstroemeria litgu's flowers range from tangerine to reddish orange, Alstroemeria patagonica is low-growing and bears yellowish-orange flowers, and the unusual Alstroemeria isabellana bears narrow, downward-facing, coral flowers tipped in gray-green. Peruvian lily species are not as common as cultivars but can be found in specialty seed stores.
