Blueberries are a tasty treat, and can be purchased from the store or picked fresh from the bush. Before stopping to pick a blueberry in the wild, it is important to know how to identify a blueberry plant so as not to confuse the plant with a non-edible variety. The vivid blue-colored berries are easy to identify, however, the leaves take a little examining and expertise.
Color
Blueberry leaves are green in color with an occasional blue tint. They can also feature a red pigment that shows up most apparently along the edges of the leaves.
Shape and Size
Blueberry leaves are ovate (oval) or lanceolate (wider at one end) in shape and range from 1 to 8 centimeters in length and .5 to 3.5 centimeters wide.
Texture
Blueberry leaves are smooth on top and often feel thick or waxy to the touch, while the underside feels furry and is covered in tiny hairs.
Flowers and Berries
Blueberry blossoms are small, bell-shaped flowers that appear in white, pale pink or red. The plant's namesake, the berry, is a juicy blueish-purple orb that ripens from May to October.
Leaf Uses
