Lilac
The lilac plant is a glorious bush that produces fragrant purple flowers in the spring. Some lilac plants will also bloom red, blue and pink flowers or other variations of purple. These stunning plants can grow up to 12 feet tall, but dwarf versions are much smaller. These bushes grow well without much effort on your part. These plants are robust because they handle cold winters well. Watering and pruning are the only required tasks.
Rose of Sharon Hibiscus
The rose of Sharon hibiscus shrub blooms lovely flowers in the summer that last throughout most of the fall. However, don't let the name confuse you. The shrub does not produce roses, but you will notice red, pink or white blooms. Sometimes you will also see blue flowers. This plant grows up to 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide, so pruning is required. This shrub does well in several different climates, including humid, moist and hot areas. Water it about twice per week.
Butterfly Bush
The butterfly bush is a flowering shrub that produces lovely fragrant flowers in the spring. The blooms are a wide range of colors such as white, purple, pink and red. Sometimes, however, this shrub will also sprout variations of these colors with an orange or yellow center.
The butterfly bush can reach heights up to 15 feet tall, but most plants average about 6 feet. Smaller sub-species such as the adonis blue will only grow up to 5 feet tall. Easy to care for, this shrub only needs watering twice per week and light pruning.
