Damping Off
Damping off is a common disease of the goji berry seedling. Damping off is caused by a fungus which attacks the young goji berry root system and stem.
Symptoms of Damping Off
A young plant that is wilted or drooping is likely experiencing damping off. It is necessary to look at the top soil layer to be determine the plant's problem. A white layer of mold growing on the surface of the soil is a sure sign that plants have been victims of damping off.
Common Causes
Some of the common causes of damping off include: high pH balance, poor soil drainage, and poor air circulation. Seedlings which are started indoors are particularly prone to damping off.
Prevention/Solution
To prevent damping off disease, watch carefully as seeds germinate. When seedlings have produced a stem, spread a light layer of ground cinnamon on the soil around the seedling to prevent damping off.
Warning
When watering goji berry plants it is important to avoid water contact with plant leaves. Water that is left on plant leaves promotes fungal growth that may attack plants. Make sure that plants have adequate drainage and that water does not pool around the plant or roots.
