Pavers come in a wide range of colors, sizes and shapes. The pavers can be installed in just a few hours and require little clean-up and maintenance. Brick pavers are durable and long lasting, but even if one becomes broken or chipped, it takes only a few minutes to replace it. Use design ideas for backyard pavers when creating an entertaining area or even a new patio in your yard.
Flagstone Patio
The flagstone design is similar to a mosaic design because the pavers aren't arranged in a specific way. Use pavers of different colors and shapes, which add more interest and depth to your space. The process begins with a layer of grout on the ground. The grout needs a smooth surface such as concrete for it to stick properly. Using this design idea over an existing patio is a good choice. The pavers then are placed directly on the grout and pushed into it. A layer of grout is applied on top of the pavers and smoothed between the pieces. Sealant applied to the top protects the finished patio.
Step Up
For a flat backyard, use the pavers to create a raised area or small platform for entertaining. Use concrete blocks, or pour a concrete pad in the backyard to create the platform. Square and rectangular pavers in a light color highlight the platform and form a tight seal when used with grout. Use smaller pieces of pavers along the sides and larger pieces between to create steps leading up to the platform. Depending on the amount of space you have available, you may want to add multiple areas on the platform, using pavers as steps for each of the platforms.
Make It Circular
When placed side by side, rectangular pavers make a circular design. Depending on the space, make a small patio just big enough for a table and chairs, or a larger patio with room for a grill and multiple tables. One paver placed in the middle serves as the beginning of the design. Arrange the pavers around the central pieces, with the short sides against the middle and the longer sides touching one another. Keep adding more pavers, arranging the short and long sides together and working out, until you create a circular patio large enough for your needs.
