Definition
Mimosa pudica is a member of the Mimosaceae family. Its native habitat is Brazil. Common names include sensitive plant, touch-me-not, tickleme plant, tickle me plant and humble plant.
Geography
Mimosa pudica grows best outside in USDA hardiness zone 11, which is warm and tropical. In other zones, it can be used indoors as a houseplant.
Size
Mimosa pudica usually grows to a mature size of 12 to 36 inches tall and wide. It can sometimes reach 5 feet tall in tropical regions.
Sun and Water Needs
Keep this plant in a location that is at least part shade, though full sun is best. In winter, only water if the sensitive plant is wilting. In other seasons, keep the soil moist.
Soil
Mimosa pudica can be grown in most soils as long as it drains well. They are good for locations that are deficient in nitrogen, since they are able to convert nitrogen from the atmosphere into a usable form. Most plants do not share this ability.
