The Vanguard V-Twin 33 to 35 gross horsepower engine is a small engine designed for use in several different types of power equipment. According to Briggs & Stratton, it can be used in everything from concrete equipment to wood chippers to large commercial-grade lawn mowers. Briggs & Stratton sells the Vanguard V-Twin with, as of November of 2010, a three-year warranty.
Dimensions and Capacities
Measuring 14.92 inches long, 19.53 inches wide and 28.54 inches tall, this Vanguard engine weighs 125 pounds. It has a 3.5-quart fuel tank and holds 77.8 ounces of oil.
Engine Design
This Vanguard has two cylinders in a horizontal configuration. Each has a bore of 3.37 inches and a piston stroke of 3.41 inches, and each operates at a compression ratio of 8.2-to-1. The V-Twin's total displacement is 993 cubic centimeters and it can generate between 33 and 35 gross horsepower.
Engine Components
The engine's cylinder block is made of an aluminum alloy, although the sleeves for the cylinders are made of cast iron. It also features a two-barrel carburetor and a multi-stage air cleaner. Ignition is controlled by an electronic system for better performance. In addition, Vanguard uses a number of components, including a specially designed muffler and crankcase, to make this engine run as quietly as possible.
Warranty
Briggs & Stratton sells this engine with a three-year limited warranty. The warranty applies to both consumer and commercial use and covers both parts and labor.
Options
A number of optional features can be added to the V-Twin. These include a Marine Package for use on the water, as well as different crankshafts, alternators and even the ability to meet the California Air Resources Board's stringent air quality standards.
